Power and Promise – Helping Gifted Girls Hold Onto Their Dreams Power and Promise is the result of almost twenty years' experience teaching gifted children, and a decade of gender-equity work with parents and teachers. I first published it in 1996 as a practical guide to help parents and teachers better empower the girls that come under their care. The book is currently out of print, and I am reluctant to reprint until I have revised and updated the research, and can comment on the many gains that have been made by girls during the past decade. Still . . . the core problems of gender inequity remain – glass ceilings, persistent gender biases and stereotypes – and concerned folks continue to ask for copies of Power and Promise. Rather than put them off indefinitely, I am making the book available here. A recent summary on the current status of glass ceilings and gender bias in the professional world can be found here.http://www.slate.com/id/2154331/?nav=tap3 Feel free to read, download, print, copy and distribute any of the material and information you find useful. Your best bet would be to copy and paste the chapters into a Word document, remove the bold (Save Ink!), and print them out. Good luck! Tim Flinders
